New Delhi, October 13: Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Hassan has indicated that his party is ready to form an alliance with the Congress party. Hasan indicated that this would happen only if the Congress is ready to cut its ties with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Kamal Haasan Enters Politics: How Parties in Tamil Nadu Have Reacted so Far.

Hassan made this statement during the interview with Thanthi Tv, where he said, "If DMK-Congress alliance breaks, I would be ready to join hands with Congress in the 2019 elections. I need to have a word with Congress to make sure our alliance would benefit the people of Tamil Nadu," reported Indian Express.

This move from Kamal is not a surprise since he met Congress president Rahul Gandhi in June to discuss the political condition in Tamil Nadu.

Previously, the 63-year old actor-turned-politician had said that his party wants to fight corruption and he will not joint hand with any of the party which is tainted. He further added that both AIADMK and DMK were corrupt, will work hard to dethrone them from Tamil Nadu.

Hassan has also announced that to focus on his political career, he will give up acting. In order to strengthen his party, Kamal will be travelling across different cities to meet people.
