Chennai, December 18: Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan on Wednesday met the protesting students of Madras University, who have been locked inside the Aramani Campus. The superstar-turned-politician alleged that 800 students have been made refugees by Edappadi K Palaniswani-led AIADMK government. Haasan claimed that he would be a student till he die and continues to support them in their protest against the amended Citizenship Amendment Act.
Haasan, while speaking to the media after meeting the protesting students, said, as NDTV quotes "I am a student till I die. 800 students are protesting on Taramani campus of Madras University. Our students have been made refugees here." Adding on, he also opined that students have been starved out, so that their voices can be silenced. Earlier on Tuesday, Haasan attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi government for passing the CAA and alleged that it discriminates against illegal Muslim immigrants alone from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. He had said, as The Hindu quotes, "It is a democracy only when power rests with the people. I will not rest until this anti-people Government is removed. None of us should rest."
Adding more, the MNM chief also alleged that AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu and had said, "They have betrayed the interests of the Tamil people and the nation. They are obedient to their masters. You know who their masters are." Apart from this, he also condemned the police action on protesting Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Mulsim University students, claiming, "every blow on the student community is a blow on the Freedom of Speech and Expression guaranteed by democracy."
