New Delhi, August 6: With the debate over the abrogation of Article 370, providing special status to Jammu and Kashmir, taking serious turns in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia extended his support to the Narendra Modi-led Union government. This latest move comes as an embarrassment to the opposition party which is protesting against Modi government's move.

Expressing his views on the recent move by the Union government, Scindia took to Twitter and wrote, "I support the move on #JammuAndKashmir & #Ladakh and its full integration into union of India." Imran Khan Says India May Face 'Another Pulwama' in Retaliation to Article 370 Abrogation, Calls Modi Govt 'Racist'

Stating that the move by the BJP-led Central government is in national interest, Scindia added, "Would have been better if the constitutional process had been followed. No questions could have been raised then. Nevertheless, this is in our country’s interest and I support this."

Earlier, Congress's Rahul Gandhi opposed the move to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two parts and scrapping the special provisions under Article 370. He had written, "National integration isn’t furthered by unilaterally tearing apart J&K, imprisoning elected representatives and violating our Constitution. This nation is made by its people, not plots of land.

This abuse of executive power has grave implications for our national security."

Earlier, a petition has been filed by Advocate ML Sharma in the Supreme Court of India, calling the amendments made to Article 367 are "illegal" and "unconstitutional." On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday proposed to revoke the special status under Article 370 and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories — Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Along with the Amendments in Article 370, Centre amended 367 and added Clause 4 under which "Constituent Assembly" was replaced with the "Legislative Assembly."
