New Delhi, July 21: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Wednesday took oath as Rajya Sabha member after being elected to the Upper House of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh. BJP candidates Scindia and Sumer Singh Solanki, and Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh were elected to Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. However, their oath-taking ceremony was differed due to novel coronavirus crisis.

Scindia's oath-taking ceremony comes around three months after the collapse of the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh. Scindia joined the saffron campy by parting ways with Congress. Twenty-two of his loyalist supporters also resigned as MLAs, leading way to BJP's return to power.

Meanwhile, as many as 43 out of 61 Rajya Sabha MPs took oath today. For the first time, the ceremony was done inside the House chamber when Parliament is not in session. The ceremony was to take place in April but was postponed due to COVID-19 crisis.

First-time MP from Shiv Sena Priyanka Chaturvedi, YSRCP's Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Biju Janata Dal's Sujeet Kumar also took oath today. BJP MPs Narhari Amin, Rajendra Gehlot are amongst those who took oath. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale also took oath as RS member.
