JP Nadda Elected as BJP President, Amit Shah Needles Congress Over Dynasty Politics
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) targeted the Congress over dynasty politics after Jagat Prakash Nadda was elected unopposed as President of the saffron party.
New Delhi, January 20: Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday was elected unopposed as President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After Nadda succeeded Amit Shah as BJP chief, the saffron party targeted the Congress over dynasty politics. Amit Shah, himself was among the people who proposed Nadda's name along with Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh, took a dig at the Congress party, saying the BJP isn't run by a dynasty. "What stands out the BJP from other political party is the fact that we don't function on casteism or nepotism," Shah told a gathering held to felicitate Nadda. "If you look at other parties, every party is family-based and is promoting their own people. Only BJP promotes every worker based on sheer quality, dedication and love for the motherland," he added. BJP's Karnataka unit shared a video of Priyanka Gandhi's children, apparently to needle the Congress.
In the video, Priyanka Gandhi is seen introducing his daughter Miraya Vadra and son Raihan Vadra to a cheering crowd. The teenagers are seen waving at the crowd. Born on December 2, 1960, Nadda rose through the ranks from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He has been active on the national political scene since 2010 when he was picked by then BJP chief Nitin Gadkari to join his new team. He was made the party's national general secretary.
