JP Nadda Appointed as BJP Working President After Amit Shah Becomes Home Minister in PM Narendra Modi's Cabinet

Former union minister JP Nadda has been appointed as the next Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president on Monday.

New Delhi, June 17: Former union minister JP Nadda has been appointed as the working president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party’s parliamentary board meeting on Monday. However, Amit Shah will remain as the party chief. The appointment comes as Shah has been included in the cabinet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After the meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "The @BJP4India has won several elections under the leadership of party president Shri @AmitShah. After the Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi appointed him the Home Minister, Amitji himself had said that the responsibility of party president should be given to someone else." He also congratulated Nadda on the appointment as the BJP working president.

Nadda served as Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare under the Narendra Modi government from 2014- 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP registered a landslide victory by winning 303 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 353 seats. In the recently concluded general elections, the opposition parties including Congress failed to pose any challenge to the saffron party.
