New Delhi, January 6: Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal assured that strict action would be taken against the goons, who had beaten up Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and professors on the campus on Sunday evening. Pokhriyal stated, “Universities are meant for education and should never be made a political base. Action will be taken against those who will be found guilty. Pokhriyal's Statement:

Meanwhile, Delhi police on Monday said that there were no closed-circuit television cameras at hostels and in the campus of the JNU where students were thrashed. The cameras are located only at the main gate and at the entries of the administration building, reported NDTV. The JNU students who were beaten up also alleged that police personnel and private security guards inside the university, did nothing to stop the violence. The Delhi police registered an FIR in connection with the case. However, no arrest has been made till now. The Ministry of Home Affairs sought a report from the police over the incident. Joint Commissioner Western Range, Shalini Singh, will investigate the case.
