New Delhi, October 26: Scheduled Castes leader Jignesh Mewani, while addressing a Communist Party of India (CPI) rally in Patna, abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his 30-minute long speech, Mewani reportedly called Modi "namak haraam" six times.
"Namak haraam" is an abusive Hindi phrase used to refer to someone who is disloyal. Mewani used the words against Prime Minister while condemning him for his muted response to the anti-migrant violence in North Gujarat earlier in the month. Mewani told the gathering in Bihar that Modi has betrayed their trust by not issuing an appeal for peace in Gujarat when thousands of migrants were forced to flee in wake of the unprecedented violence.

Mewani also condemned Modi for "failing" to take steps towards tackling the issues of unemployment, malnutrition, farmer suicides and inflation.
He repeated the "namak haraam" slur again when his mic stopped working amid a sudden power cut out at the rally. "Yeh bhi iss namak haraam ka shadyantra hai (Even this is the conspiracy of that betrayer)," he said.
Mewani, a Dalit-rights activist in Gujarat, became a first-time legislator in the assembly elections 2017. He won the Vadgam seat contesting as an independent.
