The polling for 20-seats in the second phase of Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2019 began on Friday, amid high security. The polling for two urban constituencies of Jamshedpur West and Jamshedpur East will take place from 7 am to 5 pm, while the remaining left-wing affected constituencies would take place between 7 am to 3 pm.

An estimated 63.36 per cent votes were cast on Saturday in the second phase of election for the Assembly in Jharkhand where one person killed was in firing by security personnel near a polling booth. The voting figure is likely to go up as reports from remote places are awaited. Polling in the 20 constituencies had begun at 7 am amid tight security. It ended at 3 pm in 18 of them while in the rest two – Jamshedpur (East) and Jamshedpur (West) – the polling ended at 5 pm, Election Commission sources said.

Ranchi, December 7: The polling for 20-seats in the second phase of Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2019 began on Saturday, amid high security. The polling for two urban constituencies of Jamshedpur West and Jamshedpur East will take place from 7 am to 5 pm, while the remaining left-wing affected constituencies would take place between 7 am to 3 pm.

The Election Commission has deployed over 42,000 security personnel in the 20 poll-bound constituencies, which is spread through six districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, Ranchi, Kunti and Simdega. According to the EC estimate, around 48 lakh voters will decide the fate of 260 candidates. The polling is taking place on 6,066 polling stations. The major political parties contesting the Assembly Elections include Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) -- both contesting on all 20 seats. However, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is fighting on 14 seats in alliance with Congress which is contesting on six seats. Sudesh Mahato's All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) is fighting on 12 seats.

As per the EC, among the 260 candidates contesting the Phase 2 of the Jharkhand Assembly Elections, Association for Democratic Reforms or ADR has identified 46 are 'rich candidates', and 67 have criminal cases against them.

Earlier in the first phase, 64.12 percent of votes were cast in 13 constituencies of Jharkhand Assembly polls. The EC had marked 1,097 polling stations as hypersensitive and 461 polling stations as sensitive. The next three phases of polling for the 81-member Assembly will be held on December 12, 16 and 20. Counting is scheduled on December 23.
