Ranchi, November 30: Amid polling for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, Congress candidate from Daltonganj KN Tripathi brandished a revolver on Friday. According to reports, a clash erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress supporters at Koshiyara polling booth after which Tripathi took out his gun. The video of Tripathi brandishing the gun is now doing rounds on social media. Workers of both the parties broke windowpanes of a police vehicle. The situation was brought under control after the intervention of security personnel deployed at the polling booth.

The Election Commission has reportedly taken cognisance of the incident. The poll-conducting body has also sought a report from the administration. Tripathi accused Chourasia and his supporters of booth capturing. However, the BJP MLA blamed the Congress candidate’s security guards were scaring the voters by showing them guns.

Meanwhile, the voting for the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections 2019 was held on Thursday amid a heightened state of security. A total of 13 constituencies went for polls. Around 62 percent of voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of elections. Earlier in the day, Naxals carried out a low-intensity explosion targeting a bridge in Bishnupur village of Gumla district.
