Ranchi, December 23: After an hour and half of the counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the initial trends state that both Raghubar Das-led Bharatiya Janata Party and Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha are heading for a neck-and-neck fight, and there is high possibility of fractured-mandate in the state.
As per the initial details, BJP is leading in 35 seats while the opposition alliance, lead by JMM's Hemant Soren, is leading in 35 seats. With the inputs pouring in, it can be seen that All Jharkhand Students' Union's Sudesh Mahato may play the role of kingmaker, as his party is leading in four seats as per the trends. Also, Babulal Marandi's JVP-P is trailing at four seats. However, unofficial reports state that the BJP has reached to Mahato for support and promised him the Deputy Chief Minister post which was denied to him previously in 2014. Trends also say the Hemant Soren is leading from both Barhait and Dumka seats, where BJP's Luis Marandi is trailing. On the contrary, BJP's Raghubar Das is leading from Jamshedpur East seat, where both Congress' Gaurav Vallabh and independent candidate Saryu Rai are trailing. Sudesh Mahato is leading from Silli Assembly seat as per the details. BJP's Koche Munda is also leading from Torpa Seat, JMM's Mathura Prasad is leading from Tunda.
In the previous Assembly polls, BJP had won 37 seats, which had made an alliance with AJSU and formed the government in the state. JMM had earlier won 19 seats, while its alliance Congress had won 7 seats. JVM(P) has won 8 seats, while BSP had secured one seat. However, four individual candidates have won the seats. The majority mark to form the government in the state Assembly is 41.
