Ranchi, December 23: After three-and-half hours of counting by the Election Commission of India for the Jharkhand Assembly polls, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren's JMM-led alliance had crossed the majority mark and is leading with 43 seats. This is two seat more than the majority mark in the 81-member state Assembly. While Chief Minister Raghubar Das-led Bharatiya Janata Party is trailing with 28 seats, which is nine less than the seats it won in 2014.

According to the initial trends, JMM-led alliance is leading in the state with 42 seats, which includes JMM (26), Congress (11) and RJD (5). On the other side, BJP is trailing at 28 seats, followed by Sudesh Mahato's AJSU (5), Babulal Marandi's JVM-P (3) and others with four seats. Apart from these two candidates, JMM's Sukhram Oraon (Chakradharpur), Satyanand Bhokta (Chatra), Deepak Birua (Chaibasa), Jagarnath Mahato (Dumri), Ramdaa Soren (Ghatsila), Baidyanath Ram (Latehar), Stephan Marandi (Maheshpur), Joba Manjhi (Manoharpur), Champai Soren (Saraikella) and Nalin Soren (Shikaripara) are leading in their respective seats. Also, BJP's Dulu Mahato (Baghmara), Ashok Oraon (Bishnupur), Alok Kumar Chaurasiya (Daltongunj), Suresh Murmu (Jama), Raghubar Das (Jamshedpur East), Nilkanth Singh Munda (khunti), Aparna Sengupta (Nirsa), Chandreswar Prasad Singh (Ranchi) and Koche Munda (Torpa) are leading.

Those leaders supposed to be become the kingmakers are leading in the initial trends include AJSU's Sudesh Mahato from Silli, JVM's Babulal Marandi from Dhanwar and AJSU's Lambodar Mahato, among others. While JMM's Hemant Soren is trailing from Dumka seat in the meanwhile. In the previous Assembly polls, BJP had won 37 seats, which had made an alliance with AJSU and formed the government in the state. JMM had earlier won 19 seats, whiile its alliance Congress had won 7 seats. JVM(P) has won 8 seats, while BSP had secured one seat. However, four individual candidates have won the seats. The majority mark to form the government in the state Assembly is 41.
