Ranchi, December 23: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) emerged as the single largest party in the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2019. The JMM bagged 30, while its alliance partners Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) clinched 16 and one seat respectively. In these elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to gain majority in the elections. The saffron party managed to win only 25 seats. The counting of votes for all the 81 seats in Jharkhand began.
Polling was held in the state in five phases from November 30 to December 20. The counting of votes started at 8 am in all the 24 district headquarters. All eyes will be on the Jamshedpur East seat from where Chief Minister Raghubar Das has been winning this seat since 1995. The Chief Minister has been pitted against ex-cabinet colleague Saryu Rai, who has turned rebellion after his ticket was put on hold by the party. In Jharkhand, the Congress, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have a pre-poll alliance while the JMM was allotted 43 seats. The Congress is fighting in 31 seats while the RJD is fighting on 7 seats.

Several exit polls have predicted the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance to form the government in the state. According to India Today-Axis My India exit poll, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance will get 38 to 50 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get around 22-32 seats.
In 2014, the BJP won the Jharkhand Assembly polls and formed its first-ever government in the state by winning 37 out of 81 seats. BJP's then alliance partner AJSU Party had won in 5 seats while the JMM and Congress managed to win 19 and 25 assembly seats respectively.
