Ranchi, December 23: With the counting for votes underway for the Jharkhand Assembly elections 2019, Shiv Sena spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP -- Sanjay Raut -- on Monday took a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that BJP's bid to polarise the voters in Jharkhand along communal lines has failed. The above comments arrived soone afrer the initial trends gave edge to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance in state.

Expressing his comments on the current trends of Jharkhand, Shiv Sena spokesperson said, "Home Minister raised CAA during his rallies. Attempts were also made to turn this into Hindu-Muslim (battle). But people of Jharkhand have rejected them." Though Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi had stated that his government had nit done any discussion on NRC since 2014, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior BJP leaders have spoken about at several occasions. Even the BJP’s manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections promised NRC in 'other parts of the country in a phased manner'.

Dating back from September 8, 2018, Union Home Minister Amit Shah -- then just BJP's preident -- had said at the party's National Executive meeting at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, "Our stand on NRC is very clear, every infiltrator will be identified and will be thrown out of India." Apart form this, till recently on December 2 -- while addressing an election rally in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum, Shah had said, as Indian Express quotes, "…the Congress says don’t implement NRC, don’t send infiltrators. We will implement NRC in the entire country and send each and every infiltrator outside the country by the 2024 elections."

Not only Shah, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP working preident JP Nadda, Minister of State (Home) Nityananda Rai, among others have spoken in favour of NRC at various platforms. As per the initial trends, Hemant Soren-led alliance is leading with 42 seats, while the BJP is trailing on 28 seats. The self-claimed kingmakers -- Babulal Marandi's JVM and Sudesh Mahato's AJSU -- are leading with three seats each. In the previous Assembly polls, BJP had won 37 seats, which had made an alliance with AJSU and formed the government in the state. JMM had earlier won 19 seats, whiile its alliance Congress had won 7 seats. JVM(P) has won 8 seats, while BSP had secured one seat. However, four individual candidates have won the seats. The majority mark to form the government in the state Assembly is 41.
