Ranchi, April 20: The counting of votes of Jharkhand Municipal Elections 2018 (Jharkhand Nagar Nikay Chunav) is underway. It must be noted that the results for 34 local bodies in Jharkhand began at 8 AM on April 20. Reports inform that the SEC has made adequate security arrangements to ensure the counting of votes takes place smoothly. Meanwhile, additional forces have been deployed at various vote counting booths.
Initial trends have started pouring in where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Chairman Seat in Chirkunda Nagar Parishad while the RJD is ahead in Garhwa. The results for all the 34 local bodies in the state will be out by afternoon. Polling for five Municipal Corporations (Nagar Nigam), 16 Municipal Councils (Nagar Parishad) and 13 Nagar Panchayats on Monday was held on April 16, 2018. A total voter turnout of 65.15 per cent was recorded in the Jharkhand Civic Polls overall, Ranchi Municipal Corporation. It must be noted that this is the state’s largest urban local body, recorded the lowest turnout of 49.3 per cent. Reports inform that over 22 lakh voters were eligible to cast their votes for 34 urban local bodies in Jharkhand.
The Nagar Parishads in Jharkhand that went to polls were Garhwa Nagar Parishad, Garhwa District, Chatra Nagar Parishad, Chatra District, Madhupur Nagar Parishad, Deoghar District, Godda Nagar Parishad, Godda District, Sahibganj Nagar Parishad, Sahibganj District, Pakur Nagar Parishad, Pakur District, Dumka Nagar Parishad, Dumka District, Mihijam Nagar Parishad, Jamtara District, Chirkunda Nagar Parishad, Dhanbad District, Phusro Nagar Parishad, Bokaro District, Ramgarh Nagar Parishad, Ramgarh District, Lohardaga Nagar Parishad, Lohardaga District, Gumla Nagar Parishad, Gumla District, Simdega Nagar Parishad, Simdega District, Chaibasa Nagar Parishad, Paschimi Singhbhum District, Kapali Nagar Parishad, Saraikela-Kharsawan district.
To recall, bypolls were also held at four local bodies – Jhumri Tilayya, Deoghar, Dhanbad and Bishrampur.
