Jayalalithaa Death Probe: Apollo Hospitals Asked to Submit CCTV Footages
Following Jayalalithaa's death, allegations of foul play began to do the rounds.
Chennai, Sep 7: The commission investigating the death of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday asked Apollo Hospitals to submit CCTV footages in seven days. Notably, Prathap C Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, in March said that all CCTV cameras were off during Jayalalithaa's hospitalisation at the hospital.
“Unfortunately, they (CCTVs) were switched off. Jayalalithaa got admitted and one ICU was completely occupied only by her. So, they removed the footage because they did not want everyone to be watching”, Reddy was quoted by ANI. In August, the commission, led by Justice A Arumughaswamy, summoned three doctors of AIIMS, who examined Jayalalithaa at the Apollo Hospitals.
G C Khilnani of the Department of Pulmonology, Anjan Trikha, Professor of Anesthesiology, and Nitish Nayak, a professor at the Department of Cardiology had periodically examined Jayalalithaa when she was undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital between September 22 and December 5, 2016. The commission was formed in September 2017 by the Tamil Nadu government.
Following Jayalalithaa's death, allegations of foul play began to do the rounds and Tamil Nadu forest minister Dindigul Sreenivasan even claimed that all cabinet ministers had lied to the people about hospitalisation and death of the former chief minister. Jayalalithaa was admitted at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai for a long time before she breathed her last on December 5, 2016. She suffered a cardiac arrest on December 4 and was declared dead the following day.
