Ranchi, December 23: The constituency in Jharkhand which drew the nation's attention is Jamshedpur East. The seat witnessed the candidature of sitting BJP MLA and Chief Minister Raghubar Das. While his contest was primarily considered to be against Congress' national spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh, the assembly segment witnessed a third dimension of the electoral battle, with the entry of independent candidate Saryu Rai. Jamshedpur East, along with 19 other constituencies, went polls in the second phase of assembly polls on December 5. The five-phased electoral battle ended on December 20, and the final results will be declared by the Election Commission today.
In the 2014 assembly elections, Jharkhand witnessed the election of first-ever BJP-led government. The party, after winning 37 out of the 81 seats, succeeded in forming the government in alliance with the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) Party which won 5 seats. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress were reduced to 19 and 6 seats, respectively.
