Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has claimed that he would be placed under house arrest post-midnight, hours after opposition party leaders united at National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah's house on Monday. Unconfirmed reports are arriving that internet services would be partially suspended and Section 144 imposed in Valley from Tuesday morning.
Srinagar, August 4: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has claimed that he would be placed under house arrest post-midnight, hours after opposition party leaders united at National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah's house on Monday. Unconfirmed reports are arriving that internet services have been partially suspended and Section 144 imposed in Valley.
Informing about the house arrest, Omar Abdullah took to Twitter and wrote, "I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight & the process has already started for other mainstream leaders. No way of knowing if this is true but if it is then I’ll see all of you on the other side of whatever is in store. Reacting to the reports, former state Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and wrote, "How ironic that elected representatives like us who fought for peace are under house arrest. The world watches as people & their voices are being muzzled in J&K. The same Kashmir that chose a secular democratic India is facing oppression of unimaginable magnitude. Wake up India."

Earlier, Opposition party leaders - led by Farooq Abdullah - met in Srinagar on Sunday to discuss the situation in Kashmir. Abdullah conveyed that all the parties will unite to identity, autonomy and the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
With the tense situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir over the last couple of days, embassies of the United Kingdom and Germany issued a travel advisory for its citizens, asking them to refrain visit the Jammu and Kashmir. Reports are coming that mobile internet services have been partially suspended in Kashmir and all Kashmir University examinations have been postponed. These exams were scheduled from August 5 to August 10, 2019.
