Srinagar, April 23: Voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 was underway on Tuesday. In Jammu and Kashmir, voting began for the Anantnag Parliamentary constituency. The Anantnag seat will witness voting in three phases. While the Anantnag district is voting today, polling in Kulgam district will take place in the fourth phase on April 29, and Pulwama and Shopian will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 6.  The voting in Anantnag district began at 7 am today. One incident of violence was also reported while polling was taking place today. PDP supporters thrashed a National Conference (NC) polling agent at Bijbehara polling station of Anantnag district, alleging bogus voting.

The Anantnag constituency has a total of 527154 registered general voters and 2118 service voters. A total of 714 polling booths have been set up across the Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmiri Pandits Cast Their Votes in Udhampur For Anantnag Seat

JKPDP leader and former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti won this seat in Lok Sabha Elections 2014 by defeating Mirza Mehboob Beg of the JKNPP. She is back in the fray this election, along with Sofi Youssaf of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ghulam Ahmad Mir of the Congress and Hasnain Masoodi of the National Conference.

In the earlier two phases of General Elections 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir, a voter turnout of 57.35 per cent was recorded in the first round while 45.7 per cent polling took place in the second phase.
