New Delhi, August 13: After Rahul Gandhi accepted Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik's invitation, the governor's office said that the Congress leader was politicising the matter. On Rahul Gandhi's comment on Kashmir, the statement said the Gandhi scion was "responding to fake news possibly spread from across the border about the situation in Kashmir, which is peaceful with negligible incidents." Rahul Gandhi Accepts Jammu And Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik's Invite to Visit Valley.

The statement added that Rahul Gandhi should see the "correct position in the valley" as reported by Indian media or through submissions made by the government in the Supreme Court. "He can check for himself from various Indian channels which have reported correct position in the valley," the statement said.

Accusing Congress leader of politicising the situation, the statement said, "Rahul Gandhi is politicizing the matter by seeking to bring a delegation of opposition leaders to create further unrest & problems for the common people. He has put forth many conditions for visiting J&K, including meeting mainstream leaders under detention."

Statement by Jammu and Kashmir Raj Bhawan:

The statement from Raj Bhawan comes after a war of words between Governor Satya Pal Malik and Rahul Gandhi on the situation in Kashmir. On Sunday, Rahul said that he came across some media reports of violence in the valley. "People were dying in the state and the situation was not normal as claimed by the government," he said.

Tweet by Rahul Gandhi:

Reacting to it, Malik had said that Gandhi should be ashamed. The governor also invited Gandhi to the valley and see the ground reality. "I have invited Rahul Gandhi to come here. I will send you an aircraft, to see the situation and then speak up," Malik said.

Accepting the Governor's invitation, Rahul Gandhi said that he and other opposition leaders will visit Kashmir. He also urged Malik to grant them the freedom to travel and meet people.
