DDC Election Results 2020: PAGD Sweeps Kashmir, BJP Holds Ground in Jammu

Jammu, December 22: The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, an alliance of more than 6 mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir, secured a clear lead in District Development Council (DDC) elections after counting of votes for results started on Tuesday. According to trends for DDC election results available at 11:45 pm, PAGD bagged 90 out of 280 seats. The BJP won 56 and Congress secured 21 seats, whereas JK Apni Party had 10 seats in its kitty. Counting of votes remained underway.

PAGD Wins Big in DDC Election Results 2020:

National Conference candidate Kaiser Mir and Independent Shabir Aad Reshi  have won the DDC Elections from Khimber & Hawan constituencies in Srinagar, respectively. Mehmooda Nisar of National Conference won from Kapran, Shopian. Counting of votes for Drugmulla territorial constituency was stopped earlier in the day.

J&K DDC Election Results 2020: Trends in Jammu Division

The election for DDC is the first democratic exercise undertaken in J&K after the revocation of Article 370. In August 2019, the Centre had revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The state was also converted into a Union Territory.

Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) was leading on 8 seats in early trends. BJP is ahead on 5 seats in Jammu Division, Congress 2, CPIM 1, Apni Party 2, according to early trends at 9:45 am.

Among the key parties in the contest are the BJP, Congress and the Gupkar Alliance — an alliance formed by regional political parties that have come together to fight for the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

On Monday, former chief minister and PDP chief Mehbboba Mufti claimed that her party leaders Sartaj Madni and Mansoor Hussain have been detained on the eve of DDC election results.
