Srinagar, October 8: The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections results 2024 will be announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) today, October 8, starting at 8 AM. The 90-member assembly of Jammu and Kashmir went to poll in three phases, with the first phase on September 18, followed by the second and third phases on September 25 and October 1, respectively. The exit polls have given an edge to the Congress-National Conference alliance in the Union Territory. Voter Turnout in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024
After voting concluded in the Union Territory on October 1, the Election Commission on Thursday, October 3, said that Jammu and Kashmir recorded an overall 63.88 per cent voter turnout in the assembly elections. Giving a detailed breakup of voting percentages in the three phases of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the poll panel said that 69.69 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the third phase held on October 1. On the other hand, Phase 1, held on September 18 and Phase 2, held on September 25, saw polling percentages of 61.38 per cent and 57.31 per cent, respectively.
What Happened in the 2014 Assembly Election in Jammu and Kashmir?
This is the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and since the last election of 2014. In the 2014 assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the People's Democratic Front (PDP) won 28 seats, while the BJP bagged 25 seats. On the other hand, the National Conference won 15, Congress 12, JKPC 2 seats, CPI(M) and others 1 seat each, and Independent 3 seats. Following the results, the PDP and the BJP went on to form government in the erstwhile state and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became the Chief Minister in March 2015. However, the PDP-BJP government fell in June 2018.
