Srinagar, September 24: The second phase of Jammu and Kashmir elections 2024 will be held tomorrow, September 25. The first phase of Vidhan Sabha polls in the Union Territory was successfully held on September 18. It must be noted that the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir polls will be held on October 1, with the results being declared on October 8, along with the Haryana assembly elections. With several high-profile candidates in the fray, the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections becomes crucial for various political parties aiming to win the Union Territory.
Jammu and Kashmir Phase 1 Voting Date, Time, and List of Constituencies
Voting for the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held tomorrow, September 25. A total of 26 assembly seats across six districts of the Union Territory will go to poll. Key constituencies that will go to poll on September 25 include Nowshera, Central-Shalteng, Ganderbal, Budhal, etc. Polling in the 26 assembly constituencies is likely to begin at 7 AM and end by 6 PM. The 26 assemblies going to poll in the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir will determine the fate of 239 candidates, including Omar Abdullah. The assembly constituencies going to vote in the second phase are spread across the central Kashmir districts of Budgam, Srinagar, and Ganderbal, as well as the Reas, Poonch and Rajouri districts in the Jammu region. As per the election commission notification, A total of 15 Assembly Constituencies of Kashmir will be polling in the second phase. These include Kangan, Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Lal Chowk, Channapora, Zadibal, Eidgah, 26-Central Shalteng, Budgam, Beerwah, Khansahib, Chrar-I-Sharief and Chadoora. On the other hand, 11 constituencies going to poll in Jammu are Gulabgarh, Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Kalakote-Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri, Budhal, Thannamandi, Surankote, Poonch Havel and Mendhar. Key Candidates Going to Poll on September 25
Phase 2 of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will seal the fate of prominent faces such as former chief minister Omar Abdullah, BJP chief Ravinder Raina, Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, APNI Party chief Altaf Bukhari, Congress state president Tariq Hameed Karra, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi of PDP and Ravindra Raina, state president of BJP. Other notable contenders are former ministers Ali Sagar and Rahim Rather and BJP leaders Choudhary Zulfikar and Syed Mushtaq Bukhari.
This is the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014 and the first after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The first phase of voting saw a voter turnout of 61.13 per cent registered across 24 assembly constituencies spread in seven districts of the Union Territory.
