Jammu And Kashmir: All Landline Connections to be Restored Across Valley by Tomorrow

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday said all landline connections across the Valley will be restored by tomorrow in view of the improving situation.

Srinagar, September 4: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday said all landline connections across the Valley will be restored by tomorrow, nearly a month after the abrogation of Article 370. The remaining 19 telephone exchanges, which are still under communication restrictions, will be opened on Wednesday night, said Jammu and Kashmir's Department of Information and Public Relations in a tweet. Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti Allowed to Meet Families Nearly Month After Abrogation of Article 370.

Srinagar District Magistrate Shahid Choudhary also said that most telephone exchanges will be made functional across Kashmir valley by tonight. "Most telephone exchanges to be functional tonight across Valley. Mobiles being restored gradually, already buzzing in Kupwara. The authorities, however, are yet to restore internet services across the valley. On August 5, the government had imposed communication restrictions across Jammu and Kashmir, by clamping down upon landline, mobile and internet connections when it abrogated provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution and reorganised the state into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

While communication restrictions are being lifted from most areas of Jammu and Kashmir, but the deployment of security forces continued on the ground to maintain law and order. Several mainstream politicians, including former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, and separatists have been under house arrest since August 5.
