Jaganmohan Reddy Meets PM Narendra Modi, Discusses Special Status, Central Funds For Andhra Pradesh

The YSRCP won 151 out of th 175 assembly seats, along with 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

New Delhi, May 26: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate Jaganmohan Reddy flew to the national capital today, where he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reddy was assured by PM Modi of all possible assistance from the Centre. The special category status, which Reddy's predecessor Chandrababu Naidu had also been demanding from the BJP-led NDA regime, was the most crucial poll plank in the Andhra assembly polls.

Following the meeting, PM Modi shared images of the interaction on Twitter. Describing their conversation as "fruitful", Modi said his government would be providing all possible assistance to Andhra for increasing the pace of development.

"Had an excellent meeting with Andhra Pradesh’s CM designate @ysjagan. We had a fruitful interaction on several issues pertaining to AP’s development. Assured him all possible support from the Centre during his term (sic)," Modi said.

In the simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha polls held on April 11, Reddy's YSR Congress Party handed a crushing defeat to the incumbent Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP.

The YSRCP won 151 out of th 175 assembly seats, along with 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

Ahead of the results, Reddy had kept pollsters on the edge claiming that he would extend support to that coalition which promises special category status to Andhra. However, the situation did not arise as the BJP-led NDA won way above the halfway majority mark.
