New Delhi, December 27: All the 10 accused arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for setting up an "ISIS module", have been sent to a 12-day remand by the Delhi's Patiala House Court on Thursday. Among those held include a civil engineer, an undergraduate student and a woman as well.

The arrests were made by the NIA after conducting raids at 17 locations across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. The alleged kingpin of the module is Mufti Muhammad Sohail, a cleric at a madrassa in Amroha district of UP.

According to the NIA, the extremist module was named by the accused as  Harkat ul Harb-e-Islam. The group planned an array of attacks in various parts of the nation on New Year's eve and ahead of the Republic Day, said senior NIA officer Alok Mittal. On their radar were public places, political leaders affiliated to the BJP and the RSS.

Those arrested in the case have been identified are: Mufti Mohammed Suhail alias Hazrath (29), Anas Younus (24), Rashid Zafar Raq alias Zafar (23), Saeed alias Sayeed (28), Saeed's brother Raees Ahmad, Zubair Malik (20), Zubair's brother Zaid (22), Saqib Iftikhar (26), Mohammed Irshad (in late 20s) and Mohammed Azam (35).

A huge cache of arms was seized by the investigators in the raids. The recovery includes over 25kg of explosives, 134 SIM cards, 13 pistols, rudimentary rocket launcher and over 100 alarm clocks, the NIA said, adding that the group was also preparing suicide vests -- to carry out fidayeen attacks.

According to the NIA, the terror module was self-financed by the accused individuals, who had "accumulated funds by stealing and selling gold ornaments" from their homes. However, the ideological source was from abroad, the investigators said, adding that the handler who is guiding them is based in a foreign country.
