New Delhi, October 15: The special Delhi Court on Tuesday granted the custody of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The probing agency is likely to arrest the senior Congress leader tomorrow.  Chidambaram is currently lodged in Tihar Jail since September 5. After the ED requested to interrogate and arrest him in the court., it told the probing agency, "It will not be dignified if you interrogate and arrest P Chidambaram here in public view". The ED on Monday had moved two applications before the court to formally arrest the senior Congress leader.

On October 11, the court ordered the former Finance Minister to appear before it on Monday. The ED lodged a money laundering case against Chidambaram in 2017 in connection to the alleged flouting of norms to allow Rs 305 crore foreign infusion into the Peter Mukherjea-promoted media firm. P Chidambaram, Jailed in Connection to INX Media Case, Taken to Delhi's AIIMS After Complaints of Stomach Ache.

Chidambaram is currently in the judicial custody in the INX media case handled by the CBI. The CBI is probing the corruption charges against Chidambaram in the INX Media case. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister when the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) gave Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) clearance to INX Media in 2007. The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017. Thereafter, the ED lodged a money laundering case against him in the same year.
