Ink Attack on Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis' Convoy in Ahmednagar

Ahmednagar, September 13: An ink attack on the official convoy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was reported on Friday. The incident was reported in Ahmednagar, where Fadnavis was on a visit to attend state functions, apart from meeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cadres. As preliminary reports, the woman throwing ink on the convoy has been identified as Sharmila Yeole, a worker of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathan. Nagpur-Based RTI Activist Complaints Against Fadnavis for 'Favouring' Wife's Bank.

Police sources could not confirm whether action would be taken against Yeole for throwing ink at the convoy of the Maharashtra CM. The woman, who belongs to the Raju Shetti-SSS, wanted to register her dissent against the alleged anti-farmer policies of the Fadnavis government.

No official statement has been issued following the ink attack. Notably, Fadnavis continued with the scheduled itenary of his Ahmednagar visit, and paid tribute to the city's iconic Shivaji Maharaj statue as he embarked on the "Maha Janadesh Yatra" -- the campaign to reach maximum section of the electorate ahead of the polls.

The last major ink attack on a political figure in Maharashtra was reported in 2017, when a person threw ink at senior Congress leader and former chief minister Ashok Chavan.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been a recipient of several ink attacks as he had eased his security protocol on various occasions. The last major ink attack he had faced was in February 2019, when the AAP chief was campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi.
