Islamabad, June 4, 2018: Pakistani politician Imran Khan's second wife Rehman Khan has been embroiled in a controversy before the launch of her book, which revolves around her marriage to Khan. The cricketer-turned-politician leads the political party Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI); the partymen of PTI have expressed their ire and accused Rehman of defaming her husband through details in the book, ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The PTI chairman Fawad Chaudhary alleged Rehman of having met Maryam Nawaz — daughter of Nawaz Sharif who belongs to Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) and is Imran Khan's political rival. Salman Ahmad, one of Pakistan’s most famous musicians and a PTI member also alleged that Reham had taken £100,000 million (pound) from PML-N to malign her former husband. To prove his claims, he said that he has an email sent to him by her(Rehman) which states that Imran Khan is a hypocrite and a liar who doesn't fast and pray.
However, Rehman has denied all the allegations. Reportedly in an interview to a private television channel, she refuted the claims of receiving money from PML-N. "The accusation of receiving money from Shehbaz (former PM Nawaz Sharif's Brother)is incorrect, and I never met him or Maryam," she said, threatening to take the accusers to court.
Moreover, she also requested the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar to take notice of the issue. "I cannot understand why Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is apprehensive about my book," she said in the interview.
According to a news report in The Times of India, immediately after the manuscript of Rehman's book leaked on social media, the PTI members held a meeting, during which the party decided to counter the contents of the book. PTI social media accounts subsequently sent out tweets in condemnation of Rehman.
