Idukki Lok Sabha Constituency in Kerala Results 2019: Congress Candidate Dean Kuriakose Elected MP

Idukki district has been a Congress stronghold since 1977.

The results of the Idukki Lok Sabha Constituency has been declared. Congress' Dean Kuriakose won the seat with 4,98,493 votes. He won by a margin of 1,71,053 votes defeating sitting MP Advocate Joice George who is an Independent candidate. Leethesh P T of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also contested the Lok Sabha polls. Voting took place for the Idukki Constituency during the third phase. Idukki district is a mountainous region known for its rich greenery and wildlife. It is among the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala. The constituency number of Idukki is 13.  Idukki is one of the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala. Voting for Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be held on April 23. Idukki Lok Sabha constituency comprises of seven assembly segments including Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Devikulam (SC), Udumbanchola, Thodupuzha, Idukki and Peermade.

Youth Congress state president Dean Kuriakose will be contesting from the constituency. LDF backed Independent candidate is Joyce George is the sitting MP of Idukki. With backing from the Left, he won from the same seat in 2014. Idukki has been a Congress stronghold since 1977. Thereafter in 1999, K George of Kerala Congress (Joseph) emerged. In 2009, Congress won the constituency back, but lost again last elections. In 2014 Lok Sabha election, Kuriakose had lost to Joice George by a margin of about 50,000 votes.

The Lok Sabha elections 2019 was held between April 11 and May 19 in seven phases. In Kerala, voting was held in a single phase. During the third phase, the polling was held in 115 Lok Sabha constituencies of 14 states. The counting of votes was held on May 23 and thereafter the results were declared.
