Here's What Arvind Kejriwal Said on Rumours of Congress-AAP Alliance For 2019 Lok Sabha Elections
Several reports claimed that efforts have been made to set an electoral tie-up between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
New Delhi, December 17: After reports surfaced that the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are negotiating for an alliance ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal finally broke his silence over speculations. Arvind Kejriwal said his party will do everything to stop the juggernaut of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.
"I believe the team of Amit Shah-ji and Narendra Modi-ji is dangerous for the country's present and future. If they come to power in 2019, they will not even spare the country's Constitution. If they change the Constitution, nothing would be left. So it is the responsibility of every patriotic citizen of the country to defeat the team, and to do that, we will take all the measures that we can," Kejriwal was quoted as saying.
Several reports claimed that efforts have been made to set an electoral tie-up between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), not just in Delhi but also for seats in Haryana and Punjab. The reports emerged after a meeting of opposition leaders to stitch a grand alliance on December 9 which was attended by Kejriwal for the first time.
Both Congress and AAP are likely to take a brawl against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with a 4:3 formula in Delhi, 9:4 in Punjab and 7:3 in Haryana, leading to a total of 30 seats. A few months ago, the AAP had approached the Congress for the alliance with a 5:2 formula in Delhi, which meant five seats for the AAP and two for the Congress. However, the proposal was rejected by the Congress's Delhi unit.
Before going into an alliance with AAP, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has reportedly strategised to bring state units together on a common platform. The final stamp on the seat-sharing formula between AAP and Congress will entirely depend on the state units of the Congress.
