Kumaraswamy's oath comes barely a week after BS Yeddyurappa was sworn-in as the 23rd CM of Karnataka -- only two resign two days later after failing to prove majority in the legislative assembly.

In the elections held on May 12, Karnataka gave a fractured mandate. In the hung assembly election, BJP emerged as the single-largest with 104 MLAs -- eight-short of the majority mark. The Congress and JD(S) won 78 and 37 seats respectively. Their coalition adds up to 115 seats, well over the halfway-mark. Their post-poll alliance got further consolidated following the support extended by the lone BSP legislator and two independents.

The ceremony was expected to begin at 4:30 pm, at the Krantiveera stadium here in Bengaluru. Along with Kumaraswamy, Congress' G Parmeshwara will be elected as deputy CM and senior MLA Ramesh Kumar will be appointed as Assembly Speaker.
