Bengaluru, July 24: Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who lost the trust vote on Tuesday, signed a final order to fulfill the last of poll promises. The Janata Dal (Secular), continuing with his welfare politics, rolled out a loan-waiver for landless labourers of the state. Kumaraswamy Loses Karnataka Trust Vote After Making Emotional Speech in Vidhana Soudha

Kumaraswamy, while speaking to reporters on Wednesday, said he signed the executive order yesterday hours before losing the confidence motion by 6 votes.

The loan-waiver, he claimed, will benefit landless labourers with less than two hectares of land or those earning an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh.

The caretaker CM expressed satisfaction over his decision, saying that the move will benefit scores of landless labourers. Those who have borrowed from private entities would also be granted aid, Kumaraswamy clarified.

The JD(S) leader further claimed that his 14-month-old government was committed to the cause of poor and farmers. The crux of the coalition regime's policies were focussed at benefiting the agrarian class, he said.

On being asked whether the exchequer could support the loan-waiver scheme, the Chief Minister said the state's finances would be sufficient to write-off the pending loans of the beneficiaries.
