Gandhinagar, April 1: Congress leader Hardik Patel on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court’s decision to stay his conviction in 2015 rioting case and instigating mob at Visnagar in Mehsana. His petition is likely to be mentioned on Tuesday for urgent hearing. Patel’s lawyers would seek a stay of the March 29 order of the Gujarat high court order. As the High Court had refused to revoke the conviction, the Patidar leader would not be able to contest Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Patel joined the Congress on March 12 ahead of the general elections. Patel had expressed his wish to contest from Jamnagar. Last month, the Congress leader had moved the Gujarat High Court seeking suspension of his conviction in a rioting case. He had sought relief on the ground that he is an "aspiring candidate" to contest the Lok Sabha elections. ‘Berojgar Hardik Patel’ Mocks Narendra Modi’s ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ Campaign on Social Media.
