Aizwal, December 11: The Election Commission of India has begun the counting of votes for Mizoram Assembly Elections at 8 am today. The main fight was between the Congress and the Mizo National Front (MNF). Incumbent Chief Minister Lal Thanhawala will be eying to retain the post of the CM for the third consecutive time. The voting for the 40-member legislative assembly was held on November 28. This time the polling percentage dropped 75 percent as compared to 2013, where 81 percent people cast their votes. This time, around 7.7 lakh electorates practised their right to vote in 1,164 polling stations across the state. Meanwhile, 15 temporary polling stations specially erected for the Bru voters in Mizoram-Tripura border Kanhmun village in Mamit district. 1) Hachhek (ST): Lalrinmawia Ralte is the sitting MLA from the Congress. In 2008 also he won the assembly election from the same constituency. Meanwhile, Lalrinenga Sailo of MNF and Vanlalruata Pachuau of the Bharatiya Janata Party also contested from Hachhek. Check here for live results for Hachhek.
2) Dampa (ST): Two-time winner Lalrobiaka of Congress will be hoping to win the seat for the third consecutive time. K Lalrimawia of the BJP and Lalrintluanga Sailo of the MNF are also in the fray to win this constituency. Check here for live results for Dampa .
3) Mamit (ST): This constituency is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. John Rotluangliana of the Congress is the sitting MLA from the constituency since 2008. Lalzirliana and Malsawmtluanga of the MNF and the BJP will be looking to break the winning streak of Rotluangliana. Check here for live results for Mamit.
4) Tuirial (ST): The constituency of Tuirial is a part of Mizoram's Kolasib district and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. The then Congress candidate Hmingdailova Khiangte won the seat in the 2013 and 2008 Assembly elections. This time around, the Congress did not give the ticket to Khiangte, so he contesting on the ticket of National Peoples' Party (NPP). Meanwhile, the Congress has fielded Joseph L Ralte as its candidate from Tuirial. The BJP's Jacob T Vanlawma and Sailothanga Sailo of the MNF also contested from the constituency. 5) Kolasib (ST): Kolasib constituency is a part of Mizoram’s Kolasib district and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. The Congress’s PC Zoram Sangliana won the seat in the 2013 Assembly elections. This time the Congress fielded Ngurdingliana who will face MNF’s candidate K Lalrinliana and Lianthlira of the BJP. 6) Serlui (ST): The constituency of Serlui is a part of Mizoram’s Kolasib district and also reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates. The Congress’s K. Lalrinthanga won this seat in the 2013 and 2008 Assembly elections. In 2018 elections, Congress's Lalhmanchhuana contested against MNF's Lalringsanga Ralte. Meanwhile.
