Raipur, December 11: Counting of votes has started in Chhattisgarh, where Assembly elections took place in two phases – November 12 and November 20, 2018. The poll battle in these six constituencies – Gunderdehi, Patan, Durg-Rural, Durg City, Bhilai Nagar, Vaishali Nagar – is primarily wedged between the ruling Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the BSP-Janata Congress alliance. Gunderdehi: For this seat, both BJP and Congress have changed their candidates. Congress has replaced the sitting lawmaker Rajendra Kumar Rai with post-graduate candidate Kunwer Singh Nishad, while BJP has fielded postgraduate candidate Deepak Sahu, instead of Virendra Kumar Sahu. Patan: For this seat, Congress has fielded its PCC chief and postgraduate sitting candidate Bhupesh Kumar Baghel. BJP has replaced Vijay Baghel with Motilal Sahu. Janta Congress has fielded Shakuntala Sahu, while AAP has given the ticket to Durga Jha. Check here for live results for Patan.
Durg-Rural: Here, both BJP and Congress have changed their candidates. BJP has replaced sitting MLA Ramshila Sahu with Jageshwar Sahu, and Congress has replaced Pratima Chandrakar with Tamradhwaj Sahu. Durg City: In this constituency, a trilateral contest is expected between the ruling BJP, the Congress and the Janta Congress. Congress has fielded its sitting MLA Arun Vora against BJP’s Chandrika Chandrakar, who has replaced Hemchand Yadav. The counting of votes is expected to conclude in the next few hours, with the Election Commission of India scheduled to declare the final results by the end of the day. In case of a BJP victory, Dr Raman Singh would continue to remain the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. If the Congress succeeds in routing the saffron camp, the party is expected to take a cautious decision on choosing the CM, while BSP-Janta Congress Alliance might choose Ajit Jogi as their CM candidate.
