Gandhinagar, February 19: The counting of votes for Gujarat Municipality by-election and Rajkot Municipal Corporation by-election 2018 began at 9 AM on Monday. The elections were held on Saturday, February 17, when 74 municipalities went to polls.

As per initial trends for all 75 municipalities are in – the BJP is leading in 44, Congress in 27, while the others in four. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won in 59 of these 74 municipalities that went to polls this year. You can watch the LIVE streaming of Gujarat Civic Election Results 2018 here.

As per schedule, the polling was to be held in 75 municipalities but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Jafrabad municipality unopposed.  On Monday, results will be declared for two district panchayats, 17 talukas and 1400 village panchayats, besides 74 Nagar Palikas (municipalities).  As per reports, another tie has been reported in Pardi municipality in Valsad district with both BJP and Congress winning 14 seats each. Earlier in the day, a tie was reported in Vanthali municipality in Junagadh district with both Congress and BJP winning 12 seats each.

While the BJP retained Gadhda municipality in Botad district and Dwarka municipality in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Congress scored a thumping win in Rajula municipality in Amreli. The Congress party has left behind BJP by winning 27 out of 28. It must be noted that the Rajula and Jafrabad municipalities are part of Rajula Assembly seat which Congress had snatched away from BJP last December. The BJP took away Chalala municipality from Congress in Amreli district while the party retains power in Jafrabad and Lathi municipalities. Mean Congress, defeat in Jafrabad, Lathi and Chalala comes two months after it won all five Assembly seats in the district in December.
