Surat, April 9: Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani stirred controversy by using abusive words for Congress candidates. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a party candidate’s election office in Surat on Monday, Jitu Vaghani said Congress candidates are 'har****da' and 'b*****s' and urged voters to shun them in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"I would like to warn the people of the state: recognise these har****das (illegitimately born), who have sinful minds and only want to harass and trouble people. Recognise such people, friends, and press the button on the lotus, vote for us overwhelmingly, that is my request," Vaghani was quoted as saying. The abuse 'har****da' was previously used for the opposition by Union Minister of State Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in December 2014.

Reacting to Vaghani's derogatory remarks, Congress's Surat unit chief Babu Raika said they were planning to complain to the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the BJP leader's statement. Vaghani is known for making such controversial remarks. Earlier he had said that Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka were breastfed with commandos around.

"They are always surrounded by security. They know nothing about security of the nation. They must have been breast-fed with commandos around," Vaghani had said. He had later tendered an apology. Recently, his son was caught copying in the BCA exam in Bhavnagar. He then issued a statement saying stern action should be taken against his son as per norms. ‘Priyanka Gandhi Is Beautiful But Holds No Political Achievement’: Bihar BJP Minister Vinod Narayan Jha Makes Sexist Remark Against AICC General Secretary.

Polling for all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat will be held in a single phase on April 23, and the results will be declared on May 23.
