In Gorakhpur, Samajwadi Partyās Praveen Kumar Nishad wins Yogi Adityanathās Gorakhpur seat, defeats BJPās Upendra Dutt Shukla by 21,916 votes. Pravin Nishad, the candidate supported by the Samajwadi Party in Gorakhpur had spoken of a "bigger alliance" if the Samajwadi Party won.
Congress candidate in Phulpur Shambhu Patel has lost his deposit. The seat has been wrested by SP's Nagendra Patel. The party leaders, however, expressed rejoice over the defeat of the BJP. "We have lost and we will evaluate what went wrong. But still we would congratulate the SP four defeating the communal forces," said Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal.
Samajwadi Party candidate from Phulpur Nagendra Pratap Patel has been declared winner by the Election Commission. The victory of SP comes as a major embarrassment for the BJP as the seat was last represented by Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
It comes as a shocker for the BJP, that it failed to hold on to victory in both, Phulpur and GorakhpurĀ constituencies. Both the seats were vacated by CM and Deputy CM. The winners are not declared yet, but the trends suggest SP is more likely to win the seats.

After 17th round of counting in Gorakhpur, SP's Praveen Kumar Nishad leads by 26,960 votes with 2,62,346 votes while BJP's Upendra Dutt Shukla second with 2,35,836 votes.

The SP candidate of Phulpur has extended its lead and is now leading by 15,713 votes; whereas the party is leading in Gorakhpur constituency byĀ 14,600 votes.Ā The BJP seems to be losing ground to SP in both the constituencies.
SP candidateĀ has breached the bastion of UP CM Yogi Adityanath's constituency and is now leading byĀ 3,760 votes. In Phulpur, the SP seems to be a clear winner as SP is leading by a margin of 14,299 votesĀ as per the latest reports.
There were reports of counting being slow in Gorakhpur constituency. Also, the media-persons were barred from entering the counting centre.
The latest trends suggest SP has marginally moved ahead of the BJP in Gorakhpur constituency. The SP candidate is now leading by 1,523 votes. In Phulpur, the party has strengthened its lead and is now ahead by 12,223 votes.
As per the recent updates, the SP has been managed to spring a major surprise in the state. TheĀ SP was already leading in Phulpur constituency and now has surged ahead of BJP in Gorakhpur too. There were reports of media being denied to enter the counting center.
The counting process is quite slow in the Gorakhpur constituency. However, the BJP is leading in the constituency by a huge margin, as per the latest reports. In the Phulpur constituency, the SP candidate isĀ ahead by 6,931 votes.
Despite BJP trailing from Phulpur in the initial counting of votes, the party's former MP from the seat Keshav Prasad Maurya is firm on its victory. "We will win the Phulpur seat by the time the final results will emerge," said Maurya.
The Samajwadi Party is leading from Phulpur by over 2,100 votes. The seat was earlier represented by the BJP's Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was appointed as the Deputy CM last year.
BJP candidate Upendra Dutt Shukla is leading from Gorakhpur parliamentary constituency by over 3,000 votes, as per the latest updates released by the ECI.
Praveen Nishad, the Samajwadi Party candidate from Gorakhpur claims the "elections were rigged" in favour of BJP. "This has happened earlier as well. The EVMs were rigged in favour of the BJP. The Election Commission should investigate," he said, while speaking to reporters.

The Gorakhpur seat fall vacant after the incumbent MP Yogi Adityanath, who was representing the seat for five consecutive terms since 1998, resigned after he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

In Phulpur, the BJP had fieldedĀ Kaushalendra Singh Patel to take on SP'sĀ Ā Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel. The Congress nominatedĀ Manish Mishra.
Polling in the two constituencies on Sunday was disappointing as only 43 per cent voting was recorded in Gorakhpur, whereas, the electoral participation in Phulpur was even worse at 37.3 per cent.
