Panaji, July 11: Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Goa, son of late Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, Utpal Parrikar that after his father's demise, words like “trust and commitment” ceased to exist in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After the dramatic developments on Wednesday, Utpal said the path of trust that the Parrikar-led BJP had walked, ended on March 17, with the former Defence Minister's death, and added saying that the saffron party has"taken a different direction" thereafter. According to reports by IANS, Utpal said he was willing to take the lead to help re-establish the philosophy of trust among the party's committed cadre, "at the cost of repercussions". "The path of trust which Parrikar established in his politics ended on March 17," Utpal said. Utpal further added saying that "only time would tell" whether the committed BJP workers would accept the trend of lawmakers from other parties joining the BJP.
Utpal, the late Chief Minister's son, was first tipped to represent his father's seat of Panaji after Parrikar's death on March 17 during the May assembly by-election, but was suddenly dropped by the party in favour of Sidharth Kuncalienkar.
Late on Wednesday, the BJP in Goa engineered a split in the 15-member Congress legislature party and inducted the 10-member splinter group headed by the leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar into the BJP. Soon after, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant late on Wednesday headed for the national capital, to introduce the newly inducted lawmakers to Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Thursday.
