New Delhi, April 24: The returning officer (RO) on Wednesday accepted nomination papers of cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir who is contesting Lok Sabha election from East Delhi parliamentary seat. Gautam Gambhir's nomination was put on hold for a brief period after the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised objections alleging a discrepancy.

Gambhir filed his nomination from East Delhi on a BJP ticket on Tuesday, the last day of filing nominations for the Lok Sabha elections in the national capital. AAP's candidate from the constituency Atishi alleged a discrepancy in documents submitted by Gambhir after which the returning officer sought his response by 3 pm today. 'Chowkidar' Chants at Road Shows of Gambhir, Bidhuri; Vijender Rides Open-top Jeep.

"The stamp paper which has been furnished is dated April 23, 2019 whereas the notarial stamp on two of his affidavits have a date of April 18 and April 19 respectively," Atishi alleged in a statement. Following Gambhir's explanation, the returning officer accepted his nomination papers. The East Delhi Lok Sabha seat will witness a triangular contest between Gambhir, Atishi and Congress's Arvinder Singh Lovely.

AAP South Delhi candidate Raghav Chadha also alleged that Bidhuri's nomination has a few "shortcomings" and hearing is slated to take place this evening at the Returning Officer's (RO) Office, a senior official said. Bidhuri, a BJP leader is the lawmaker from the South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.
