Another cricketer who might soon turn into a politician is Gautam Gambhir. If reports are to be believed, it is being said that the former Indian cricketer is set to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Reportedly, Gambhir may contest on BJP’s ticket in the forthcoming Lok Sabha from a Delhi constituency.
Speculations are doing the rounds that Gautam Gambhir might soon join the BJP. Several news reports have suggested that Gambhir remains on the top of the party’s priority list. The party is looking to bolster its image in the national capital with his inclusion.
In the past few years, Gambhir has taken a stand on some national political issues. In September last year, he had announced that he would be sponsoring the education of slain Kashmiri cop’s daughter, Zohra, for the lifetime. In a similar act, he had announced that he would bear education expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel killed in an ambush by Maoists in Sukma in April 2017.
Earlier in 2015, Gambhir was quite vocal in his support to former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the DDCA row.
Not known to mince words while speaking his mind, Gambhir was the vital cog of India’s victory in both their World Cup victories, i.e. 2007 T20 World Cup, and 2011 World Cup. Recently, he had lashed out at India’s poor performance against England in the ongoing five-match series.
Talking about Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP won all the seven seats in Delhi. However, in 2015 Delhi Assembly Elections, it was Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that stormed to power winning in 67 of the 70 constituencies.
Whether Gautam Gambhir’s inclusion help BJP retain their seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha or not is a far-fetched thought, since so far, there are only speculations about him joining the BJP.
