New Delhi, March 1: Former cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir drew praises on social media for getting a 20 feet tall air purifier installed in the national capital. The first-of-its-kind air purifier will aid in combating air pollution in Delhi, as it is designed to treat a quantum of 2,40,000 to 6,00,000 metric cube of air per day. Delhi Air Pollution: AQI Hovers Between 'Severe' And 'Very Poor' Category in Several Areas.

Gambhir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker representing the East Delhi constituency in Lok Sabha, took to Twitter on Friday to announce that the much-awaited air purifier has been installed. The parliamentarian also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the help provided by the Centre in getting the air purifier installed.

Gambhir also took an apparent jibe at his critics and political rivals - primarily the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) - by stating in his social media post that he does not believe in extensively speaking, but reflecting his vision through actions.

"My Name is Gautam Gambhir. I don’t believe in talking, I believe in changing lives! Thank Hon’ble HM @AmitShah Ji for continuous support (sic),"the East Delhi lawmaker said in his post on social media.

The air purifier installation in Delhi comes days before the assembly elections scheduled in the state. The BJP has emerged as a prime contender to unseat the ruling AAP government, in an election which will likely feature the Congress as the third front. Dates of the polls are yet to be announced, but they are likely to be held early next month, as the tenure of legislative assembly ends on February 22.
