Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president and caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is contesting the assembly elections from Gajwel constituency in Siddipet district. Vanteru Pratap Reddy who is contesting on a Congress ticket is his opponent in the constituency. In 2014, KCR won on a TRS ticket for the first time over Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Vanteru Pratap Reddy, while the then sitting Congress MLA T Narsa Reddy was the second runner-up. Expressing victory in this election, after filing his nomination papers, KCR was quoted as saying, "The biggest battle I won is achieving Telangana statehood. His nephew and caretaker Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao who is contesting from the neighbouring Siddipet constituency also filed nomination along with him. In 2014, KCR had won over Reddy with a margin of over 19,000 votes, however, according to recent reports Reddy expressing confidence in bagging the seat said that he will win over KCR with a majority of 50,000 votes. Assembly Elections 2018 election results will be declared shortly. The counting of votes began at 8 am. The Legislative Assembly of Telangana that consists of 119 seats went to polling on December 7. In the southern state, the main contest is between TRS and the grand alliance formed by the Congress. The KCR-led government was dissolved in September leading to snap elections in the state.
In Telangana, a total of 1821 candidates including 135 women are in the fray. The TRS had 90 of the 119 seats in the state assembly. The constituency of Gajwel is situated at about 60 kms from Hyderabad. It has a total of 2,27,934 voters, including 1,14,362 male electors, 1,13,554 female voters and 18 others.
