Gadchiroli Blast: PM Narendra Modi Says 'Perpetrators Will Not be Spared' After Naxals Kill 15 Commandos; Others Also React

Mumbai, May 1: The naxals carried out an IED blast in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, resulting in the loss of lives of 15 security personnel of the C60 Commandos, an anti-Maoist squad of Gadchiroli police. The driver, a private individual, also died in the attack. The incident took place around 12.30 PM and the naxals were tipped off about the approaching vehicle. The team was on its way to Purada police station in a private vehicle. "Strongly condemn the despicable attack on our security personnel in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. I salute all the brave personnel. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. My thoughts & solidarity are with the bereaved families. The perpetrators of such violence will not be spared," tweeted PM Modi.

The Naxals also set fire to 27 vehicles and machines, said reports. Subodh Jaiswal, Maharashtra DGP, talking to the media, said that more inputs are expected in the evening. He also added that the teams have reached the spot and are inspecting the site in order to reach conclusive proof. The Governor of Maharashtra, C Vidyasagar Rao, has cancelled the reception in the evening that was to take place to commemorate the 59th Maharashtra Day in the state. The Gadchiroli- Chimur Lok Sabha constituency went to polling on April 11, 2019 for Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The Maoists had planned to mount an attack on the polling day, but had failed to do so, said reports.
