Osaka, June 28: Ahead of the 14th G20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended an informal meeting of leaders of BRICS nations where he described terrorism as the biggest threat to humanity. Speaking at the informal BRICS leaders' meeting, PM Narendra Modi said terrorism not only kills innocent people but also hinders economic development and social stability.
"Terrorism is the biggest threat to humanity. It not only kills innocents but also severely affects the economic development and social stability," PM Modi said. The Prime Minister added that there is a need to stop all the mediums of support to terrorism and racism. PM Modi is in Osaka for the G20 Summit where he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with US President Donald Trump.
PM Modi outlined three major challenges that the countries are facing and gave five suggestions to tackle them. "PM @narendramodi along with other #BRICS leaders exchanged views on regional, multilateral & global cooperation. PM put forward a 5-point approach to address common challenges facing the world," spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Raveesh Kumar, tweeted.
Earlier today, PM Modi held talks with Trump and discussed various bilateral and global issues including Iran, 5G communications networks, trade and defence. He thanked Trump for expressing his “love towards India” in a letter recently delivered by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The Prime Minister said that he wants to discuss Iran, 5G, bilateral relations and defence ties with Trump.
PM Modi also held a "productive" trilateral meeting with Trump and Japanese premier Shinzo Abe, and extensively discussed issues of the Indo-Pacific region, connectivity and infrastructure development ahead of the formal opening of the G-20 Summit.
