Dispur, October 11: The Assam police have registered a case of alleged fraud and criminal conspiracy against Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi. The case was filed by Guwahati-based RTI activist Dular Bora on September 25, which alleged that distribution of yarns and blankets under the Gogoi's government flouted rules of central vigilance commission. Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi says Purpose of NRC Failed.

Besides the former CM, FIR against former chief secretary VK Pipersenia and former minister of state for textile and handloom Bismita Gogoi was also registered. The case was registered for the violation of the various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to fraud, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The alleged fraud dates back to 2015 when Gogoi was serving as a chief minister, the Assam government came up with the scheme for distribution of blankets and yarn with a budget of Rs 125 crore.

To implement the scheme state was divided into six zones and tenders were flouted. However, the RTI revealed that the blankets and yarn were not distributed from the firm who was awarded tender but also from the other firms who were technically qualified bidder with minimum approved rates.

Following this, the FIR has been registered in Dispur police station under section 120(b), 406, 420, 34 and 409 of Indian Penal code.
