New Delhi, May 19:  The Supreme Court on Saturday allowed BJP MLA KG Bopaiah to continue as the Pro Tem Speaker for the floor test in Karnataka Assembly on Saturday. In a bid to maintain transparency, the Supreme Court has also directed the state Assembly to hold a LIVE telecast of the entire proceedings of the Karnataka Assembly. The top court said, 'live broadcast of floor test would be the best way to ensure transparency of proceedings'.

On Friday, the Supreme Court ordered a floor test at 4 PM on Saturday in the state Assembly, majorly slashing the 15-day window given by Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala to Yeddyurappa to prove majority. "Let the House decide and the best course would be floor test," a three-judge bench headed by Justice A K Sikri said, while noting that ultimately the question was about a majority which has to be proved on the floor of the House.

With the decision of the Apex Court, BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa, who was sworn in as the new chief minister of Karnataka on Thursday will have to take floor test to prove his majority in the state assembly at 4 pm.

The political turmoil in Karnataka took a turn after the assembly results threw a fractured mandate. Trading of charges between the BJP and the Congress-JD(S) was witnessed with both claiming to have numbers in their favour. The combine has alleged that Governor was not correct in inviting the BJP, which had lesser numbers than the Congress-JD(S) alliance.
