Farooq Abdullah Threatens to Move Court Against Scrapping of Article 370, Says 'I Have Been Put Under House Arrest'; Amit Shah Rebuts Claim
A day after the Narendra Modi government scrapped the provision of Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday threatened the Centre to move court against its decision.
Srinagar, August 6: A day after the Narendra Modi government scrapped the provision of Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that he will move court against the Centre's decision. Farooq Abdullah also contradicted Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that he was not detained or arrested and he was willingly staying at his home. Hitting out at Shah, The former Jammu and Kashmir CM said, “Home Ministry is lying in the Parliament that I'm not house-arrested, that I am staying inside my house at my own will.” He further added, “Why would I stay inside my house on my own will when my state is being burnt.” Taking a jibe at the Modi government, Abdullah said that it is nor the India he believed in. Farooq Abdullah's Statement:
Rebutting Abdullah's statement, Shah reiterated in the Lok Sabha that the NC chief was not arrested. He said, "I am saying it for the fourth time, and I've the patience to say it for the 10th time, Farooq Abdullah has neither been detained nor arrested. If he isn't well, doctors will take him to hospital." The Home Minister added that If Abdullah was not well, he would not have come out. Earlier also, the Home Minister responding to Nationalist Congress Party’s MP Supriya Sule stated that Farooq Abdullah was neither detained nor arrested. Shah had claimed that the NC chief is at his home on his own will.
Hours after Shah announced the revocation of Article 370 in Rajya Sabha on Monday, former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, who were initially placed under house arrest, were arrested in Srinagar. Both the leaders were taken to Hari Niwas, a VVIP state guest house. The state was divided into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
