Farooq Abdullah Hits Back at Amit Shah For Terming Article 370 'Temporary', Says 'Then Accession of J&K is Also Temporary'
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Monday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his statement on Article 370. Abdullah said that if the article is temporary then India’s accession of Jammu and Kashmir is also temporary as plebiscite was promised at that time, but it did not take place.
Srinagar, July 1: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah on Monday hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for terming Article 370 as "temporary". Farooq Abdullah said that if Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is temporary then India’s accession of Jammu and Kashmir is also temporary. While speaking to reporters, the National Conference president said, “If Art 370 is temporary then our accession is also temporary, when Maharaja acceded, it was temporary.” He further added that plebiscite was promised at the time of accession, but it did not take place. On June 28, Shah asserted in the Lok Sabha that Article 370, that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was a temporary provision of the Constitution. The home minister made the remark during his reply to the discussion on the extension of President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the Rajya Sabha gave its nod for the extension of President's Rule in the state by six months from July 3. Shah moved a resolution for extending President's rule in the state and the amendment bill of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004.
